Realtor.com is a public-facing marketing website that we Realtors provide as a way to make a connection with web- browsing house-hunting prospects like you – people who may choose to become our seller, buyer, or renter clients.

Soon after new listings are added to the MLS (the Multiple Listing Service), the new listing's data is automatically fed to Realtor.com – including ALL brokerages that participate in the MLS. So, if it's in Realtor.com, it started in the MLS. However, there is a time delay – sometimes a day or two – before the listings appear, and even longer with the REMOVAL of listings that go “contingent” (that is, go under contract for sale), or are cancelled, re-listed, rented, etc. So, you may see listings for sale or rent in Realtor.com that are no longer available! That’s frustrating.

Instead, the “connectMLS” client-focused system that we can give you private access to is live MLS data, available only to people who have already agreed to work with a Realtor like us. Because connectMLS is a MUCH better search system, we discourage our buyer/renter clients from using Realtor.com as a search tool – as it’s far less reliable. Instead, after you select us as your Realtors, we can provide you with direct access to connectMLS – for the most accurate Chicagoland listings data that there is. [In Chicagoland, the MLS is called MRED – Midwest Real Estate Data.]

Most times, when people "find" a promising listing on Realtor.com that they didn't see in connectMLS, it's frustrating – because it's often already gone under contract. So by sticking with us – and connectMLS – you’ll avoid "falling in love" with listings that you can no longer buy or rent.
